Tidings of goodwill were spread across the island nation of Barbados just days before Christmas. As reported by E! News, the country’s native pop star Rihanna, has donated $1.75 million dollars to the Bridgetown Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The donation was made specifically in memory of the 24-year-old singer’s late grandmother; Clara Braithwaite, who passed away earlier this summer from cancer.
Honoring her “Gran Gran Dolly” (as she was affectionately known to Rihanna) and helping those in need was certainly the gesture behind the grand gift.
In a statement released by the ‘Diamonds’ singer she said, This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives, or at least extend them.”
Since the donation, the hospital has renamed its cancer treatment center after Rihanna’s grandmother. The center will now be known as the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.
What a beautiful tribute and gift.
